11:00 am: A Late Luciadagen in Hammersmith -CCE11:00 am: A Late Luciadagen in Hammersmith -CCE – When: December 14 2022, 11am - 1pm Where: Livat at Hammersmith (the new name for Kings Mall). There is a tiered seating area behind a well known Swedish flatpack shop and between a well known "little" German grocery store. This is an inside event in a public space so no need to worry if it's pouring or even snowing. Why: Come at celebrate St Lucia Day or Lucia Dagen a day late (I have to work on the real day). In Sweden, the rest of Scandinavia, and Italy, St Lucia Day is a feast day celebrated on 13 December. The observance commemorates Lucia of Syracuse, an early-4th-century martyr who, according to legend, brought food and aid to Christians hiding in the Roman catacombs. She wore a candle lit wreath on her head to light her way and leave her hands free to carry as much food as possible. Her feast day is widely celebrated as a festival of light. How: Hammersmith is well served by all sorts of public transport. From either the train stations or the bus station, it's just a short walk. You can get to the public area by following the Livat Mall around or walking through the Swedish shop. If it's snowing, you can ski or snowshoe in. Hammersmith is by the river so it's also possible to boat, swim, or wade. Dangerous animals and plants may be available to buy nearby.
