6:00 pm: The Plaque Event #21: Ian Fleming6:00 pm: The Plaque Event #21: Ian Fleming – The event will be a casual style of meeting with geochat, all welcome between 18-00 – 18.30 (9th Aug. 22) The plaque is outside, so please dress appropriately for the weather. The event is in Belgravia Park, and I will be hopefully on the bench opposite the gate. For those that want to see the Ian Fleming plaque, it is listed as a waypoint. Small trackables are welcome. This will be the 21st Plaque Event. The idea is to celebrate plaques that may be missed by the casual observer. A municipal plaque is a permanent sign installed in a public place in the United Kingdom and elsewhere to commemorate a link between that location and a famous person or event, serving as a historical marker. This plaque commemorates, Ian Fleming who created the James Bond character. Further information can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Fleming
Footnote: If anyone wants to run a Plaque Event please contact snaffler, and the host will be eligible for a badge for their profile. <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/gs-geo-images/36e5c933-fe96-4ff5-a72a-39f713aa11f8.jpg" border="0" height = "150" width = "600" </a> 6:30 pm: SELBAC #147 - The Greyhound6:30 pm: SELBAC #147 - The Greyhound – The August SELBAC event will be at The Greyhound on Tuesday 9th August, 2022 at the rear of the premises. We will either use the decking area if it's raining or the benches if the weather is fine. The garden area is nice and spacious and if the weather is good (Come on, now this is August!) then it will be lovely to sit outside. Hopefully we shall have the decking area to ourselves and the benches also! Do come along and meet up with friendly, like-minded people. If you're new and would like to be met outside the pub, please just let us now via a message or email and we can do that. If you've been trying to solve a puzzle without success, perhaps someone here can nudge you in the right direction. Please feel to bring along SMALL trackables to exchange or discover. The venue is not suitable for anything large. There is parking down the road alongside the Common but the nearby car park closes at dusk so best not to chance parking there! Please log a Will Attend if you even think about coming along so that you will get any announcements in case there is a last minute problem. Thanks. |

9:15 am: International Geocaching Day 20229:15 am: International Geocaching Day 2022 – This year there is an attempt to break the record for the most number of geocachers logging finds/attends on International Geocaching Day, so this event has been set up to give local cachers the opportunity to help that attempt. It will be just a short event, held on Chislehurst Common, close to a number of coffee shops, which may be frequented before, during or after the event. We will meet close to the coordinates wherever we can find a suitable space and I will take a photo at some point during the Event. There is a souvenir avaiable for a cache/event log today. |

6:00 pm: A Pint Amongst Friends - After the Holidays6:00 pm: A Pint Amongst Friends - After the Holidays – This event will take place at our usual venue, the Spread Eagle in Croydon. It's just a few minutes' walk from both East and West Croydon railway stations, and various bus routes and the Croydon Tramlink pass close by, so getting here by public transport is pretty easy. Parking may be less straightforward in this area. Food is available at the venue throughout the period of the event. The 'A pint amongst friends' event takes place monthly, usually towards the end of the month and on a Tuesday. Everyone is welcome, so come along for relaxed chat over a drink and/or food. If this is your first event I know walking around a pub looking for people you don't know can seem a little daunting. If this is the case please let me know in advance and a friendly face can meet you outside. 6:00 pm: The Plaque Event : #23 Issac Rosenberg6:00 pm: The Plaque Event : #23 Issac Rosenberg – The event will be a casual style of meeting with geochat, all welcome between 18-00 – 18.30 (23rd Aug. 22) The plaque is outside, so please dress appropriately for the weather. Apologies there are no seats or street furniture for us to use. Small trackables are welcome. The Event. This will be the 21st Plaque Event. 5:00 pm: London Event @ The Barbican Jungle5:00 pm: London Event @ The Barbican Jungle –
Welcome to the regular London Event for every cacher who is either visiting, working or retired in the city. The Barbican is a vast housing estate jungle in the City of London. It will be challenging to find your way to GZ as everything here is designed to get you lost. I have reflected this in the terrain rating. The significant walk (by London standards) from the tube stations, flights of stairs, cul-de-sacs, mis-leading signs and the many different levels - nothing that a proper cacher can't deal with! Should the weather turn the event will be hosted inside the Barbican Kitchen. |

1:00 pm: London Calling on Tour: Mariehamn1:00 pm: London Calling on Tour: Mariehamn – We're meeting outside Sankt Göran’s Kyrka. Sadly my departure from the Aland Islands on the ferry back to Stockholm will follow this event after a brief stay for a few hours to quickly run around Marihamm and grab some geocaches. Never been here before, but I love Scandinavia although I do need to explore more outside of the big cities; I'm due to visit Gotland next year. If there are any "must-do" caches, please send me a message and let me know so I can prioritise them. The London Calling 2023 Committee are going on tour! We didn't get to do this much during the run-up to our first Mega, so we're very pleased we can get out and about and see lots of local cachers around the country and the world! If you're considering attending our London Mega, then please take a looking at the listing here: GC9MAXX |

10:30 am: London Calling on Tour: Stockholm10:30 am: London Calling on Tour: Stockholm – The London Calling 2023 Committee are going on tour! We didn't get to do this much during the run-up to our first Mega, so we're very pleased we can get out and about and see lots of local cachers around the country and the world! If you're considering attending our London Mega, then please take a looking at the listing here: GC9MAXX Stockholm is my favourite place I've ever visited, and Djurgården is my favourite part of Stockholm. So I'm very pleased to be able to make another trip here, although for once I won't be going to Skansen (I'll be doing that when I'm back in 2023!). So come join me to chat about geocaching and Sweden for half an hour, before I head off to the Vasa Museum. If you have any cache recommendations, let me know (Match Stash is already planned!). |
